Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Sagging or puffy skin around your eyes can give you a tired, aged look – often out of proportion with the rest of your facial appearance. This is because the skin around the eyes is very thin, and among the first parts of the face to sag and accumulate fat. As we age, our eyelid muscles also tend to weaken, which further worsens the problem and can even potentially impair vision. Heredity, sun damage, smoking and stress are among the factors that also play a role.
Blepharoplasty rejuvenates the appearance of the eyes by removing the excess fat and drooping skin of the upper eyelids, minimizing bags under the eyes and tightening the lower eyelid skin.
Benefits
When done properly, eyelid surgery creates a more rested, alert and youthful appearance. While either procedure can be done alone, upper and lower eyelid procedures are usually performed together, and often in combination with another procedure such as facelift (link to facelift page) or botox (link to botox page) injections.
The Procedure
Upper eyelid surgery involves making a thin incision on the upper lid’s natural skin fold, and removing excess fat. Lower eyelid surgery is often performed without an incision by removing fat tissue directly from the inside surface of the lower eyelid
