Facelift
Everyone wants to look as young as they feel. Facelift surgery enables people with visible signs of facial aging to look younger, and in-turn feel better about their appearance.
Dr. Rawnsley’s approach to facelift surgery is based on achieving a natural, rejuvenated appearance that does not make the face appear excessively tightened or “windblown.” The goal is to remove excess fatty tissue, tighten underlying facial muscles, and smooth facial skin.
Benefits
The facelift procedure can tighten sagging facial muscles and loose skin on the neck, as well as remove excess fat. Very often a facelift is done in conjunction with eyelid surgery (link to eyelid surgery page) and laser skin resurfacing (link to skin resurfacing page).
Several different kinds of facelift procedures are available including:
- Mini Lift – Treats just the cheek and jowls, and is ideal for younger patients with early signs of facial aging. It’s also referred to as a “weekend facelift” due to the usually quick recovery period.
- Lower Facelift – Lifts and rejuvenates the lower third of the face by tightening the underlying structures that slacken with age to form jowls and sagging neck. The procedure also trims excess skin to smooth facial creases.
- Midface Lift – Lifts and rejuvenates the cheek and smoothes facial creases including the nasolabial folds (i.e., the deep folds that run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth).
- Full Facelift – Lifts, rejuvenates and smoothes the entire face and neck
After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Rawnsley will advise you on the merits of each procedure, and help you make an informed decision about which is best given your unique goals, expectations, age and lifestyle.
The Procedure
During face lift surgery, the surgeon begins by making a cosmetic incision around the ear to separate the facial skin from the underlying tissue. Excess fat and skin are removed, and the underlying structures are repositioned and tightened. The facial skin is then carefully re-draped and secured using small sutures.
The procedure is usually completed on an outpatient basis. Surgical time and recovery vary depending on the patient and procedure.
