You will have a pre-operative appointment approximately 1-2 weeks prior to your surgery. We will go over your surgery in detail. If appropriate, we will perform digital imaging to help for surgical planning and discussion of the anticipated results. Please bring a list of questions and or concerns that you have.
Absolutely. We encourage you to bring someone close to you, especially if they will be involved with your post operative care, as they may have additional questions of their own.
We ask that you avoid all aspirin products NSAID-containing products as well as vitamin E and most herbs. If you take a multi-vitamin please check to make sure there is no hidden Vitamin E. My office will supply you with a list of medicines to avoid 10-14 days prior to surgery.
Most bruising and/or significant swelling usually lasts between 7-10 days.
Before surgery we recommend that you start a homeopathic supplement called Arnica Montana, which will aid in the reduction of any bruising or swelling that you might experience. After the surgery you may continue Arnica and Bromelain supplements (a mixture of protein-digesting enzymes found in pineapples), which help reduce inflammation.
The face is a privileged part of the body and contains different types of nerve fibers than other areas of the body. As a result, pain following surgery is not a prominent complaint among patients.
It will usually take 1-3 hours before the anesthetic wears off and you will be sufficiently awake to go home.
No. Under general anesthesia or with any sedation administered, you absolutely must have someone to drive you home. For our hair restoration patients who undergo surgery under local anesthesia, you may drive yourself.
The first night after surgery we advise that you have someone spend the night with you. For our hair restoration patients there is no need to have someone spend the night.
For our cosmetic patients undergoing a face and necklift we suggest that the first night be spent in the surgery center or a surgical recovery facility (we will supply you with a list of facilities in the area). You may, of course, decide that you would like several days in a recovery facility to be taken care of.
You will come back to our office approximately 7 days after surgery for your post operative follow up appointment.
Sutures will be removed approximately 7 days after your surgery (usually during your post op visit).
We encourage our patients to come see us as needed with any questions or concerns. As a general rule of thumb: you will then come back to our office the following week; two weeks later; one month later; six months later for post operative pictures and follow-up visit.
A diet that is high protein and high calories will help promote healing.
Usually after 72 hours you may wash your hair. With rhinoplasty patients, the nasal cast must remain dry for one week. Our hair restoration patients will wash their hair using a modified hair washing technique, which we will explain.
You may resume strenuous activity 2-4 weeks after surgery depending on the kind of surgery.
Dear Patients:
We wish for your safety and health during this time. You are all on our minds during this recent outbreak of COVID-19. And to that end, we want to keep you informed of the various protocols we are taking to ensure your continued health and safety while visiting our offices.
Our practice at Rawnsley Plastic Surgery is considered a low risk environment, however, we are taking extreme measures and common sense precautions during this time. Please note the following updates practices in regard to all patient appointments:
If you have any history of travel (or have come in contact with persons who have traveled) to countries where there has been a confirmed epidemic (China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran, Italy, Japan, and the US State of Washington), please call our office to reschedule your appointment at least 30 days out.
We have implemented a no hand shaking and a social distance policy of at least 6-feet apart at our practice during this time to ensure the health and safety of our patients and staff. Please know that we appreciate all of our clients, but we want to ensure your safety and ours.
If you are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness (cough, shortness of breath, fever above 100.4), we respectfully request that you reschedule your appointment until you are free from any symptoms for a period of at least 7 days. We have asked our staff to do the same.
In addition to our already extensive level of cleaning and sterilization, we have increased these efforts with additional cleaning and sanitization of all hard surfaces in our offices.
This is indeed a very difficult time for all, including those in public health. That said, we also realize that we have some of the most strict sanitization and infection control standards in any business, making Rawnsley Plastic Surgery a safe place to visit. Should you have any questions about, please do not hesitate to contact us at (310) 570-0244.
